iCarbonX Pharmaceutical’s Antimicrobial Peptide Drug Candidate iCAMP016 Receives Clinical Trial Approval, Unleashing the Potential of Silicon-Based Chips + AI in Drug Discovery

On December 17, 2025, iCAMP016 vaginal gel, an antimicrobial peptide Class I innovative drug candidate developed by iCarbonX Pharmaceutical through its proprietary AI technology and peptide chip integrated platform, officially received clinical trial approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). The drug candidate is being developed for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV).
Previously, the company successfully completed a License-out collaboration for its GLP-1R/GIPR/GCGR triple agonist peptide drug program.
The IND approval of iCAMP016 marks the transition of iCarbonX Pharmaceutical’s innovative drug pipeline from the preclinical stage into clinical development, representing a key milestone in advancing its technologies from validation to clinical translation.
AI-Driven Drug Discovery Breaks Through Traditional Limitations
iCAMP016 represents an innovative achievement developed by iCarbonX Pharmaceutical through its core AI algorithms and the InteraCtX™ Digital Molecular Platform, integrating high-throughput peptide chip technology with efficient screening, synthesis, and optimization processes.
The program was supported by the Shenzhen Major Science and Technology Program
(Project No. 202405018: Key Technology Development of Antimicrobial Peptide Drugs Based on AI Technology Combined with Peptide Chip Platform; Project No. KJZD20240903103500002).
By targeting key phospholipid components of pathogen cell membranes, iCAMP016 rapidly disrupts biofilm structures and achieves effective antimicrobial activity.
Core Advantages: Precision Antimicrobial Activity with Microbiome-Friendly Properties
Preclinical studies demonstrated that iCAMP016 specifically targets and rapidly disrupts pathogen biofilm structures, exhibiting potent and broad-spectrum activity against multiple high-risk drug-resistant bacteria and fungi, including clinically isolated Gardnerella vaginalis, MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), ESBL-producing Escherichia coli, and Candida species.
One of its most distinctive advantages lies in its high selectivity. While effectively eliminating pathogenic microorganisms, iCAMP016 demonstrates no inhibitory activity against key beneficial bacteria that contribute to vaginal health, such as Lactobacillus crispatus.
This microbiome-friendly profile provides the potential to treat infections while preserving critical microbial balance and reducing the risk of recurrence.
Superior Efficacy and Safety Profile Supports Best-in-Class Potential
In multiple animal models of vaginal infections involving Gardnerella vaginalis, MRSA, Candida species, and other representative pathogens, iCAMP016 significantly reduced pathogen burden in vaginal tissues and demonstrated dose-dependent therapeutic effects, outperforming some existing positive control treatments.
In terms of safety, iCAMP016 shows extremely low systemic exposure following local administration, with no observed genotoxicity or significant irritation responses. Its chemical synthesis process is mature, with high stability and strong potential for clinical translation.
These characteristics support its potential positioning as a Best-in-Class antimicrobial peptide therapy candidate.
Addressing Global Antimicrobial Resistance Challenges and Exploring New Therapeutic Paradigms
Globally, antimicrobial resistance has become a major public health challenge.
Through its AI-driven antimicrobial peptide development platform, iCarbonX Pharmaceutical is developing innovative solutions for multidrug-resistant infections. As a locally administered therapy, iCAMP016 combines three key advantages: broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, reduced potential for resistance development, and microbiome protection.
The program has the potential to become a breakthrough therapeutic approach for bacterial vaginosis, providing a new treatment option for patients while further validating the capability of the Digital Molecular Platform to generate globally competitive innovative drug candidates.
Advancing Innovative Drug Pipelines Toward More Precise Therapeutic Solutions
iCarbonX Pharmaceutical stated that it will strictly follow regulatory requirements and continue advancing the clinical development of iCAMP016 with high quality.
The company will further explore the applications of antimicrobial peptides in women’s health and other infectious diseases, accelerate the development of multiple innovative drug pipelines, and strive to deliver more precise, patient-friendly next-generation therapeutic solutions.
